The Madras cocktail features tart and sweet juices combined with smooth vodka. This easy cocktail requires only 3 ingredients and is simple yet sophisticated.

I love fruity drinks in the summer. Some of my favorites are the Bahama mama,  the hurricane, the raspberry lime rickey, and the Strawberry Daiquiri.  The Madras cocktail adds a blast of citrus flavor to the classic cape cod drink and comes together so quickly. It's the perfect drink for summer gatherings and patriotic parties like the 4th of July and Christmas. We also love it for BBQ and picnics.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

bottles of Tito's vodka, cranberry juice, and orange juice.
  • Orange Juice: Use freshly squeezed for the best flavor.  I like using
Valencia oranges as they're sweet and yield a lot of juice. If you can't find them navel oranges will also work.
    • You can substitute store bought orange juice if you prefer. Or try blood orange juice which has a bright color and berry like flavor. I suggest pulp free for a smoother drink.
  • Cranberry Juice: Avoid no sugar added drinks which can be too tart. Instead, use sweetened cranberry juice, also called cranberry juice cocktail. Apple, raspberry, or even pomegranate varieties would be a fun twist. Avoid pink juices like CranWatermelon, which won't give you the dark color typical of this drink.
  • Vodka: Use a mid-shelf vodka. I like Absolut and Titos best. Also, consider fruity-flavored vodkas like lime or berry to mix it up.

Krystle's Tips

  1. Serve a crowd: Serve in a pitcher or punch bowl by multiplying your ingredients with your number of guests.
  2. Maximize Juice: Roll oranges on the counter or nuke in the microwave for 15-20 seconds to get as much juice as possible out.
  3. Too Tart: Add some simple syrup or soda pop if you prefer a sweeter drink.
  4. Ice: Make ice cubes using fruit juice to avoid a watered-down drink.
