A good rule of thumb is to multiply your ounces by the number of people you’re having!
What Does a Blue Hawaiian Taste Like
Blue Hawaiians taste like summer to me because the 2 main flavors are coconut and pineapple. It has a very similar flavor profile to the Pina Colada. There is also a refreshing hint of citrus from the blue cuaracao. If you don’t like coconut or pineapple, this may not be the drink for you. No worries, though I’ve got other blue creations like blue margaritas. Blue Lagoons are amazing too, they taste just like adult lemonade!
Blue Hawaiian Ingredients
There are 3 main ingredients in this blue hawaii drink:
1. Coconut Rum: Coconut rum is a great choice as it gives us both alcohol and flavor. My favorite brand to use in this recipe is Bacardi. A lot of other coconut rums have fruit flavors already in them. I like pure coconut flavor for this drink.
b. Pineapple Juice: Not much explanation needed here. Sweet, tart, and oh so refreshing.
c. Blue Curacao: Blue Curacao is what gives the drink its beautiful blue color. Doesn’t it look like perfect tropical waters? Blue Curacao is made with Laraha orange peels, and has a light orange flavor.
In addition, I added pineapple and maraschino cherries as a garnish. Totally optional, but I think it looks cute!
Blue Hawaiian Drink Recipe
This recipe is SO easy! You’ll just want to combine your pineapple juice, coconut rum,and blue curacao. You can use a cockail shaker, a mason jar, or even a travel mug. Whatever you have is fine as long as everything gets mixed together. We are not fancy here!
Typically Blue Hawaiian cockails are served on the rocks. That is just a fancy way of saying with ice cubes.
I also like to garnish mine with a bit of fruit. It looks cute, and reminds me of tropical vacations. This cocktail is easy, and will be ready faster than your cabana boy can bring it over.
Frozen Blue Hawaiian
Beside, serving it on the rocks, you can also make a frozen blue Hawaiian cocktail. Instead, of adding ice at the end, blend it into the drink itself using a blender. This leads to a thicker slushie like concoction. Add more ice for a slushier cocktail, and less ice for a more typical drink.
SO amazing on hot days after mowing, gardening, or just BBQing with friends.
Don’t drink alcohol or making this for the kiddos? No problem, this drink can easily be made non alcoholic. Try substituting blue gatorade for the blue curacao, and coconut extract for the coconut rum. The blue color makes it well suited for boys’ birthday parties, Memorial Day, or the 4th of July. Another fun blue drink is this Ocean Water drink. Serve alongside a strawberry cocktail for a gorgeous patriotic spread!
What Should a Blue Hawaiian Be Served In
Anything goes, remember we’re not fancy here! Use whatever cocktail glasses you have on hand. A wine glass, or brandy snifter is perfect!
If you want to be really fancy, you could serve in a hollowed out coconut or pineapple. How cute would that be!
Or if you want a more casual vibe, even a red solo cup would be fine!
