What Is A Sea Breeze Drink?
This drink contains vodka and cranberry juice, as well as grapefruit juice. It is a popular summer drink, that is served in a glass or shaken first to create a foamy surface. Love fruity drinks? The cape codder lacks grapefruit juice, while the greyhound lacks cranberry juice. This cocktail is a combination of the two.
Ingredient Notes
You’ll need to grab vodka, cranberry juice, and grapefruit juice. You can also garnish with fruit such as grapefruit slices, cherries, or lime wedges.
How To Make a Sea Breeze Drink
First, pour the vodka and cranberry juice into a highball glass with your desired amount of ice cubes. Stir well, and top off with the grapefruit juice. Add your garnishes and you’re done!
You can also make this drink in a pitcher for crowd or party.
Variations:
Bay Breeze (AKA Hawaiian Sea Breeze): Substitute pineapple juice for the grapefruit juice.
Cape Codder: Leave out the grapefruit juice.
Salty Dog: Leave out the cranberry juice, and dip the rim of the glass in salt.
Another fun variation is to add sparkling white wine or seltzer for a fizzy drink.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Kind Of Vodka Should I Use? You can use any kind of vodka. You’ll be mixing the vodka with sweet juices so the quality is less important. It’s fine to get a less expensive brand, as you’ll hardly be able to tell the difference!
Should I Use Fresh or Bottled Grapefruit Juice? I like using freshly squeezed for a tarter drink. If you prefer a sweeter drink or don’t often have grapefruits in the house feel free to substitute bottled.
Origin
This drink was created in the 1960s in response to the growing popularity of vodka. It was originally crafted as a promotion by the Ocean Spray Company. In addition, the Seagram Company used it in the 1960s to promote its aged Ancient Golden Gin.
