Colorado Bulldog

Save For Later

My Colorado Bulldog features bold coffee-flavored liquor and is both creamy and fizzy. This easy cocktail gives you your dessert and a nightcap all in one glass!

I love a dessert cocktail to finish off dinner. Some of my favorites are the mudslide and the screaming or*asm. The Colorado Bulldog is similar to the White Russian. They both contain vodka, coffee liquor, and cream. However, the Bulldog has a lovely fizz that comes from soda. It is easy to make, always a crowd pleaser.

ingredients including pinnacle vodka, kahlua, heavy cream, and a can of coca cola.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

  1. Vodka: It doesn't have to be a top-shelf variety, even a medium priced bottle will work fine. I used Pinnacle. Tito's is also good.  You could even mix it up by using flavored vodkas such as whipped cream, chocolate, or cherry. Use leftovers in our greyhound, madras drink, sea breeze, or cape codder.
  2.  Kahlua: Kahlua is a sweet rum-based coffee liquor. You can use storebought or homemade. Have leftover Kahlua make our Mudslide drink or our duck fart next.
  3. Cream: Avoid half and half and milk which is more likely to curdle because of their lower fat content. For a dairy free drink you can use oat milk creamer.
  4. Soda: Coke is a classic for this drink. I like to use it in my Long Island Iced Teas too. However, if you don't have it on hand you could use Pepsi, root beer, or even Dr. Pepper.

Krystle's Tips

  1. Freeze your glass for 10-15 minutes to keep your drink ice cold. Bonus: It will help your soda keep its fizz longer too.
  2. Pour the pop into the glass slowly as it can create a lot of foam.
  3. Bartender Trick: No shot glass? Count to two with a standard speed pourer for approximately one ounce.

FAQ

Can I Batch This For a Party?

Yes! I suggest mixing the vodka and Kahlua a few hours in advance. Add the cream and Cola to individual glasses just before serving.
Multiply you ingredients by the number of people you're serving.

Why Did My Drink Curdle?

Here's what we discovered when testing this recipe:
1. You Used Low Fat Dairy: I suggest using heavy cream.
2. Ingredients Were Room Temp: Keep all components cold as it will slow the down the protein reaction.
3. Adding Soda Too Fast: Add last and slowly down the inside of the glass or over the back of the spoon.
