Texas Margarita

Save For Later

My Texas margarita features smooth tequila, tart orange, and sweet watermelon flavors. This easy drink has a unique flavor and is so refreshing!

I love margaritas and have shared some fun varieties on the blog like Pineapple, Blue, and Sangria. Everything is better in Texas, and my Texas margarita is no exception. It adds orange and watermelon to the classic cocktail. I also like to add some jalapeno for a little kick.  It is perfect for Father's Day, pool parties, BBQ, and, of course, Cinco de Mayo.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

limes, jalapenos, watermelon liquor, margarita mix, and orange juice on a counter.
  • Orange Juice: Use freshly squeezed orange juice, if possible, for the best flavor.
    • I like using Valencia oranges for juicing. Navel also works well. Look for oranges that are firm to the touch and feel heavy for their size. The heavier they are, the more juice they contain.
  • Margarita Mix: Look for this in your grocery store near the tonic water. You can also make your own if you'd like.
  • Tequila: I used Jose Cuervo's Silver Tequila. Patron is also always a good choice.
  • Watermelon Liqueur: I used DeKuyper, but you can use any other fruity liquor you like.
  • Jalapeno: Optional but encouraged. This adds a hint of spice.
    • Remove the seeds/ribs for less heat.

Get the most juice out of your orange

Roll it on the counter and microwave it for 20-40 seconds.

Krystle's Tips

  1. No cocktail shaker? No problem! Use a mason jar instead.
  2. Ice: Make ice out of margarita mix or orange juice to avoid watering down your drink.
  3. Add sugar: Don't like a salty rim? Use coarse sugar instead.
  4. Chill: Chill your glasses to keep your drinks ice cold on these hot summer days.

Make Them For A Crowd

Multiply your ingredients by the number of guests if you want to serve this drink in a pitcher.
