Boozy Gummy Bears

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Sweet and boozy gummy bears are a nostalgic treat. Try them in my gummy bear cocktail, which is sweet, fruity, and tastes just like your favorite gummy candy.

a yellow cocktail with ice and gummy bears, with more gummy bears scattered around.

I love fun and unique cocktails. I’ve previously shared one-of-a-kind drinks like mudslide milkshakes and birthday cake shots. This gummy bear cocktail is my new favorite.

They will absorb the liquid and turn into little boozy snacks too. What’s not to love? They will take you back to the days of eating gummy bears without a care in the world. The one exception is that these are afor adults only! Theseare the perfect addition to any alcoholic beverage or a fun treat during an adult event.  You’ll not only love how easy it is to make but you’re going to totally dig the flavor too!

History/Origin

These cute gummy treats hail from Germany. They were invented there in the 1920s by Hans Riegel Sr., who went on to start the Haribo company. The trained circus bears inspired him. Today they are widely available in the US and come in 5 classic flavors/colors, including Red (Raspberry), Orange (Orange),  Green (Strawberry), Yellow (Lemon), and Clear (Pineapple).

Why You’ll Love This Drink

  • Mouthwatering Fruit Flavor: Imagine the fruity flavor explosion you get when biting into your favorite gummy candy. This tastes like that, but in cocktail form!
  • Easy: This easy drink is ready in minutes.
  • Customizable: Customize with your favorite flavors. Or scale the recipe up to serve a crowd.

red, green, yellow, and clear gummy bears soaked in rum.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

  • Gummy Bears: I used Haribo’s original gummy bears. Cheaper brands may get mushy.
  • Pineapple Rum:  I used Bacardi pineapple. Other fruity flavors like strawberry, mango, or even dragon fruit would be good too. Flavored vodka can also be used for the gummy bears or the cocktail.
    • Flavor: Smooth with notes of juicy fresh pineapple.
    • Strength: 70 proof or 35% ABV
    • Cost: $12-$15
    • Great in: Pina Coladas, Bahama Mamas, or this Fish Bowl drink.
  • Malibu Rum: Made with Caribbean rum
    • Flavor: Coconut
    • Strength: 42 proof or 21% ABV
    • Cost: $10-$15
    • Great In: Mix up the Hurricane or Hippie Juice with some tropical flavor.
  • Peach Schnapps: I’m partial to Dr. Mcgillicuddy’s.
    • Flavor: Tastes like fresh peaches!
    • Strength: 42 proof or 21% ABV
    • Cost: ~$12
    • Great In: Peach Sangria or Bellinis
  • Cranberry Juice: Use your favorite flavor. I used White Cranberry.

How To Make Alcoholic Gummy Bears

  1. Pour gummy bears into a glass bowl. Top with rum.
  2. Soak for 3 days, stirring once per day.

How To Make a Gummy Bear Cocktail

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Pour into a glass filled with ice and garnish with gummy bears. Enjoy!

How Strong Is This Drink?

This drink is around 30 proof or 15% ABV. It equals approximately one standard drink. Always enjoy responsibly.

Leftovers

Store in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also pop them in the freezer if they seem too sticky.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Will These Get You Tipsy? Yes! They’re absorbing a few grams of 70-proof alcohol, so these will pack a boozy bite. The longer the they soak in the rum, the more alcohol they’ll soak up.
  2. Don’t Overfill: Add just enough alcohol for them to be covered, but not swimming.
  3. Strain: Strain off any excess alcohol before serving.
  4. Don’t Throw Away the Liquid: Add it to another cocktail or try it in a boozy dessert.
  5. Use a toothpick or cocktail skewer for a cute presentation.
  6. Make Clear Ice: Make ice using bottled water for crystal clear cubes.
  7. Top It Off: Add lemon-lime soda such as sprite for a bubbly cocktail.
  8. Storage Note: Be sure to clearly label and store high out of reach of little hands as these are for adults only.

Now that’s how you do a party. Probably have to be careful with how many of them you eat, though. Lampshades start going on heads. It’s craziness. LOL
