Dirty Shirley Temple Drink
My Dirty Shirley Cocktail is sweet, fizzy, and ready in minutes. Unlike most versions, this drink recipe uses elevated ingredients to take this nostalgic drink to the next level.

When I previously shared a Shirley Temple recipe on the blog, I got a lot of comments asking if/how to add alcohol. Here's my version of the Dirty Shirley. It is perfect for summer cookouts and warm summer days.
Why Our Recipe Is the Best: A Sprinkle of Food Science
- We Use High Quality Grenadine: Unlike grocery store versions made with corn syrup our version is complex and made with real pomegranate juice.
- We Use A Dry Ginger Ale: This adds a slightly spicy contrast that avoids an overly sweet drink.
- We Garnish With Intention: Boozy moonshine cherries ae a fun surprise.
Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

- Vodka: We like Tito's or Grey Goose. New Amsterdam is a great budget option. You could even use cherry vodka if desired.
- Grenadine: We like Liber and Co as it's not overly sweet and is made with real pomegranate juice. It's also pretty easy to make homemade grenadine.
- Use leftover grenadine in our Planter's Punch, rum punch, or hurricane drinks.
- Ginger Ale: We like Fever Tree ginger ale as its not overly sweet and has a good spicy kick. Q Ginger Ale is also good but has a spicier more complex flavor. You can also use grocery store ginger ale or even Sprite for a sweeter drink.
- Cherries: We like using Ole Smoky moonshine cherries for a boozy bite! Look for them in the liquor store. You can also use regular maraschino cherries if desired.
Yes! Multiply the vodka and grenadine by the number of servings you need. Add ginger ale to glasses right before serving so it stays fizzy .
