Oreo Dirt Cake
My dirt cake features an Oreo cookie crust filled with a rich and creamy vanilla filling topped off with more cookie crumbs. This easy no bake dessert takes only about 15 minutes to prep.

I love no bake desserts. I've previously shared Tiramisu Cups, Oreo Cheesecake, and Peanut Butter Mousse. Today I'm sharing another favorite Dirt Cake! My Mom has been making this since I was a kid and I still love it. It's perfect for making ahead and always scaped clean at potlucks.
Why Our Recipe Is the Best: A Sprinkle of Food Science
- We Use Butter: Butter is solid in the fridge which helps this dessert hold its shape when sliced.
- We Add Vanilla and Salt: A little of each helps bring all the flavors together.
- We Add the Gummy Worms Just Before Serving: They get really hard in the fridge!
Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

- Pudding: I like the richer flavor and color of French vanilla pudding. You could also use vanilla or even chocolate. Make sure to grab instant pudding NOT cook and serve. Instant pudding thicken with milk alone without any heat.
- Cream Cheese: Use full fat block style softened cream cheese. Do not buy the whipped kind that comes in the tub as the texture will not hold up.
- Soften at room temperature for about an hour. Pressed for time? Dunk the foil packet in warm water for a few minutes.
- Cool Whip: Extra creamy is tasty too. Be sure to thaw it overnight in the fridge. Do not microwave to thaw or it will separate.
- Milk: Use whole milk for the thickest pudding with the richest flavor.
- Butter: Make sure it is softened. It should be soft enough that you can make a dent in it with your finger but not melting or greasy.
- Oreos: You can use any flavor you like. Birthday cake, peanut butter, or even mint would be a fun twist.

Absolutely! Make up to 24 hours ahead. Add gummy worms just before serving as they get hard in the fridge.
Yes! I suggest stabilizing it with around a teaspoon of gelatin though so it doesn't weep or deflate.
