Brandy Alexander With Ice Cream

Save For Later

My Brandy Alexander is thick, creamy, and full of chocolate flavor. Why choose between a drink and dessert when you can have both in one glass!

I love ending the night with a dessert cocktail like my Mudslide milkshake, a chocolate martini, or birthday cake shots. This Brandy Alexander might be my favorite yet! It's a boozy milkshake that is perfect for parties or as a nightcap. It's also easy to serve to a crowd just multiply the ingredients by your number of guests.

Why Our Recipe Is the Best: A Sprinkle of Food Science

  1. We Use Ice Cream: This gives us a super rich and creamy drink.
  2. We Use Dark Creme de Cacao: The slightly bitter flavor makes this drink chocolate forward without being syrupy sweet.
  3. We Use Freshly Grated Nutmeg: Grating is fresh releases its flavor compounds which fade quickly in dried versions. It tastes more complex than dried nutmeg and complements both the brandy and chocolate flavors.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

ingredients including brandy, dark creme de cacao, heavy cream, cherries, and French vanilla ice cream.
  • Brandy: Choose a mid shelf variety. Blending to shelf into a milkshake can feel like a waste, but don't go super cheap either. We like Korbel because of its caramel and butterscotch notes. Christian Brother is also good but slightly fruitier.
  • Ice Cream: Choose a premium high fat ice cream for the best texture. I used Haagen-Dazs French vanilla. We also love Tillamook vanilla.
  • Creme De Cacao: We like dark creme de cacao which has a slightly bitter flavor. You can also use light creme de cacao which is slightly sweeter just be aware the color of the final drink will be different.
  • Nutmeg: Use fresh nutmeg if all possible. Its flavor fades quickly once ground.

Instructions

  • Add the brandy, crème de cacao, heavy cream, and ice cream to a blender.
  • Blend just until smooth and creamy. Do not over blend or it can cause the ice cream to melt too much and the drink to become thin.
  • Pour into a chilled glass.
  • Garnish with a cherry and freshly grated nutmeg if desired. Enjoy responsibly!

Notes

You can also serve this a shaken cocktail by shaking all ingredients except the ice cream in a cocktail shaker for 10-15 seconds. Top with ice cream before serving.
Chill glass in freezer for 15-20 minutes to keep your drink ice cold.
