Crockpot Little Smokies

Save For Later

These addictive crock pot little smokies are the perfect balance of sweet and spicy.  They only require 5 minutes of prep and are always the first thing gone at parties!

a tall pile of crock pot little smokie sausages in a sweet and tangy sauce garnished with green onions.

I'm known for serving unique and tasty appetizers at parties like bacon cheeseburger dip and philly cheesesteak egg rolls. If there were a Hall of Fame for appetizers these Crock Pot Little Smokies would be in it too. The slow cooker does all the work yet it tastes fussed for hours. They’re the first thing to vanish from the buffet table. You'll wish you doubled the recipe. If you're lucky enough to have leftovers they go great over rice, in mac and cheese or inside a grilled cheese.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

ingredients including little smokies, brown sugar, chili sauce, jalapeno jelly, and chicken broth.
  • Little Smokies: These are also called cocktail sausages. I always use the Beef ones from Hillshire Farms. Look for them in the refrigerated section near the prepackaged deli meat and hot dogs.
  • Jalapeno Jelly: I used store bought, but also love this homemade version from Fav Family Recipes.  If you don't want these to be super spicy, you could use another jelly like grape or apple instead. I do this in my crock pot meatballs.
  • Chili Sauce: I used Heinz. Avoid Asian chili sauces like Sriracha which will be too spicy.
  • Chicken Broth: Grab low sodium if you can find it. You can also use beer as the liquid. Don't leave it out or the sugars could scorch and give you a burn warning on the Instant Pot!
  • Jalapeno: Remove the ribs for less heat.

Krystle's Tips

  1. Slow Cooker Tip: Use slow cooker liners or spray crock pot with non stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Optional but Encouraged: Searing adds flavor and texture and is especially easy using the sauté mode in the Instant Pot.
  3. Instant Pot Tip: Always use low pressure to prevent the casings from wrinkling or splitting.
