Bailey's Hot Chocolate

Save For Later

This rich and creamy Bailey's hot chocolate has a boozy kick. You'll never want regular hot chocolate again after trying this version.

two glasses of baileys hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

This stuff is going to make you never want regular hot chocolate ever again. My Bailey's Hot Chocolate is smooth, creamy, and just enough booze!

Hot Chocolate dates back to the ancient Mayans who used cornmeal, chili peppers, and cocoa seeds. Spicy and sweet clearly they were ahead of their times!

Why I Love This Recipe

  • Quick and easy: This recipe is ready in less than 10 minutes.
  • Rich and creamy:With milk and cream, this recipe is so luscious on the tongue.
  • Chocolatey: This recipe uses around 1 cup of melted chocolate which gives it a richer flavor than cocoa powder.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

  • Baileys Irish Cream: Baileys is a creamy liquor with chocolate and vanilla notes.  It is made with Irish Whiskey and has 17% alcohol by volume. Store leftover Baileys at room temperature for up to a year. Use the leftover Baileys here or here. Or try it in our duck fart shot!
  • Milk: Use whole milk for the creamiest drink.
  • Chocolate: I like using semi sweet chocolate.  Chocolate chips have stabilizers to prevent them from fully melting in the oven. Because of this I suggest using baking chocolate bars, not chocolate chips. You could also use white chocolate like I did in my Elsa hot cocoa.

Can You Make It In The Crock Pot?

Yes you can! Cook on low for 2-3 hours. Serve out of the slow cooker on the keep warm setting.

Tips

  1. Chopping Chocolate: Chop chocolate using a large serrated knife working from the corner inwards.
  2. Add Peppermint: Add peppermint schnapps for a super festive treat.
  3. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate sauce for an extra decadent treat.
  4. Make it Nonalcoholic: Use Bailey's coffee cream in place of the booze.
