Copycat Sonic Ocean Water Recipe

Save For Later

This copycat Sonic Ocean water is the most gorgeous and refreshing summer drink around! It is nonalcoholic and perfect for picnics or the Fourth of July.

This Copycat Sonic Ocean Water recipe is perfect for summer. It is super easy to make and kid-friendly, too. Its subtle tropical flavor reminds me of vacation. Just like my Blue Hawaiian and Blue Lagoon, it has a gorgeous blue color and is perfect for sipping poolside or at BBQs. It would also be a hit for patriotic holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day, or Labor Day. I make it often as I don't have a Sonic nearby anymore! It's also amazing topped with ice cream or blended as a slushie. Leftovers also make great popsicles. Want more options? Serve my pink sherbet punch too.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

white sugar, sprite, coconut extract, and food dye.
  1. White Sugar: Adding sugar to soda may seem silly. However, it is combined with coconut extract to make a sweetened coconut syrup.
  2. Lemon Lime Soda: Sprite is my favorite soda, and I always have it in the house. Any bubbly soda, though, like Sierra Mist or 7 Up, would work fine here.
  3. Blue Food Coloring: Use liquid over gel for easier mixing.

❓FAQs❓

Can I Make a Larger Batch?

Yes, you can make this in a pitcher or punch bowl instead. Here is the recipe for 10 servings:

1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar
5 Teaspoons Coconut Extract
10 Cans Of Sprite

Can I add alcohol?

Of Course! I suggest vodka or pineapple rum.

️Tips️

  1. Chill all ingredients and your glass for an icy cold drink.
  2. If using regular ice cubes, you can also freeze some of the ocean water to avoid a watered-down drink.
  3. Be careful with coconut extract as it is concentrated and potent. A little goes a long way. You can always add more, but you can't take it out!

Sonic Ice

To match Sonic's style, use smaller nugget-style ice. You can pick it up at your local grocery store or invest in an ice maker on Amazon.

My kids love when I make this drink. So fun!

  7. The Instructions are all messed up like jibberish! I would like to make this for my daughter. She just loves Sonics Ocean Water! The thing is that I always go by people's reviews that have actually made the exact recipe and this is happening more and more often that people will rate a recipe 5 stars and comment on it but haven't actually made it! So frustrating! Thanks for sharing but since I don't understand jibberish I will pass on this one.
