In the mood for PF Chang's but don't want to go out? I love to cook, but some days I am just SO SO SO SO SO tired.  These copycat PF Chang's Lettuce Wraps are one of those easy peasy recipes, you can make even on a busy weeknight. They take less than 25 minutes from start to finish. You could even make the chicken mixture ahead of time.

Ground chicken can get a bad rap (wrap pun intended haha) for being bland. This dish is generously seasoned with garlic, soy sauce, and hoisin. Yummy! One pan, and then dump it into a big bowl to serve. If you're not a lettuce fan you also serve the filling in a rice bowl or even with fried rice, salad, or over noodles. This dish goes great with my mall bourbon chicken and crab rangoon too.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

Ground Chicken: Look for this near the chicken breasts in your meat department. Ground turkey or pork can be substituted.  You can even make them vegetarian with textured vegetable protein.

Lettuce: I like to use butter lettuce. It has a great crunch and holds up well. Bibb lettuce would be a good substitute if you can't find butter.

Garlic: Avoid jarred garlic if possible. It tends to have less flavor.

Rice Wine Vinegar: Don't use regular white vinegar here which is sourer and less sweet than rice wine. Look for it in the ethnic aisle.

Ginger: Look for ginger in the produce section. Use leftovers in other recipes, or place them near your potatoes to prevent potatoes from sprouting.

Sriracha: Feel free to use your favorite hot sauce, or leave it out entirely if you don't like spice.

Soy Sauce: Use low sodium varieties to avoid an overly salty end product.  Coconut aminos can also be used to make this recipe gluten-free.

Hoisin Sauce: This is a thick sweet and tangy sauce. It reminds me a little of BBQ sauce.  It is the star of this sauce, so be sure to include it. It is also not too difficult to make at home.

Water Chestnuts: These add a great crunch. Look for them in the Asian section of your grocery store.

Tips and Tricks

  • Washing Lettuce: Remove butter lettuce core, and allow water to run through the head. Drain on paper towels and separate into leaves. This will ensure the lettuce is clean and crisp.
  • Serving Suggestion: Garnish with hot sauce, cashews, or even chow mein noodles.
  • Serve with fried rice and crab rangoon for a complete meal.
