My creamy Espresso Martini is coffee forward, just sweet enough, and topped with an amazing foam. It only requires a few ingredients and can double as a dessert or nightcap!

I love making classic cocktails with a twist like the Colorado bulldog, Mudslide, and Irish coffee. This creamy espresso martini is another of my all time favorites. It is smooth, creamy thanks to adding Bailey's and topped with tons of foam. This easy drink is just as at home at a dinner party as it is for reading a good book on the couch.

Why This Recipe Is the Best: A Sprinkle of Food Science

  1. Use Freshly Brewed Espresso: It's natural oils trap air bubbles better than brewed coffee for that foamy crema top we love.
  2. Shaken Twice: Dry shaking forms air bubbles that float to the top. Adding ice later chills the drink without overdiluting it.
  3. Use Bailey's Espresso Creme Not Irish Cream: This adds sweetness and sugar without the coffee flavor getting lost.
ingredients including Tito's vodka, espresso, Kahlua, and Bailey's espresso Creme.

Ingredient Notes & Shopping Tips

  • Espresso: Freshly pulled espresso is going to give you the best flavor and texture. No machine? You can order one at a local coffee house such as Starbucks. Be sure to allow it to cool so it doesn't melt the ice too quickly. Pop in the fridge or freezer to cool faster. Decaf if fine if you prefer. Avoid paper filtered coffee and cold brew concentrate which will not foam correctly.
  • Coffee Liqueur: We test this recipe with Kahlua and Mr. Black. I like Kahlua as it sweeter with vanilla and caramel notes. Mr. Black is vodka based and is less sweet
  • Vodka: I like Tito's and Grey Goose best. New Amsterdam is a great budget option. Or try a flavored vodka like vanilla or caramel. You could even used rum if you're not a vodka fan.

Krystle's Tips: Steal My Culinary School Secrets

  1. Chill Everything: Chill your ingredients and glass to help everything stay cold and to help the foam set.
  2. Shake Longer Than You Think: It takes at least 20-30 seconds to form a good crema (foam top).
  3. Pour Into Glass Right Away: We want the foam to rise to the top of the glass not the shaker!

No Cocktail Shaker? No problem!

A mason jar or protein shaker bottle with a tight fitting lid all work!
