My Blue Hawaii Cocktail Will Transport You To Paradise

I love tropical cocktails like Pina Coladas and pineapple margaritas. Another of my favorites is the Blue Hawaii. I first had it at beach bar while in Delaware, and knew I needed to recreate it at home. This Blue Hawaii cocktail will transport you straight to a place with pale white sand and softly crashing waves. It tastes like the tropics with delicious pineapple and coconut flavors. It perfect for relaxing after work, pool parties, BBQs and patriotic holiday gatherings like the 4th of July.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

a counter with blue curacao, coconut rum, and pineapple juice.
  • Coconut Rum: My favorite brand to use in this recipe is Malibu. If you're not a fan of coconut white rum can be used instead.
  • Pineapple Juice: You can use juice from a can of pineapple rings, or buy individual cans in the juice aisle.
  • Blue Curacao: I like the brand Dekuyper.

Krystle's Tips

  1. Chill: Chill all ingredients as well as your glass for an icy cold drink.
  2. Pineapple Ice: Avoid a watered-down drink by making pineapple juice ice cubes.
  3. Shake Shake Shake: You can use a cocktail shaker, a mason jar, or even a travel mug. Whatever you have is fine as long as everything gets mixed together. We are not fancy here!

Tropical Glass Idea

For a tropical vibe: use a hollowed-out coconut or pineapple.

Why Is My Drink Green?

It comes down to the color of your pineapple juice. If your juice is very yellow in color it can combine with the blue curacao to appear greener in color. To fix try adding a little more blue curacao or blue food coloring.

How Can I Make This For a Crowd?

To serve 10 people, multiply your ingredients by ten like this:
10 Ounces Coconut Rum
10 Ounces Blue Curacao
20 Ounces Pineapple Juice

Serve in a pitcher or punch bowl and garnish with fruit if desired.

    5. Look yummy! One of my favorite Blue Hawaiian, nice to see your recipe, easy to follow, will make this for family this weekend. Thanks you!

    6. I made this yesterday, but once I added the pineapple juice it was cloudy and more greenish. What juice did you use that kept it so clear and blue?

      1. That is really strange! Did you use fresh or canned? I used Dole Pineapple Juice (It comes in a 4 pack in the juice aisle). My Mom has also made this with the juice from the pineapple can (like Slices in 100% juice) and had it come out blue.

I have been making these for years. My absolute favorite drink all year round! Keep in mind, yellow and blue make green, so it's the pineapple juice that changes the color. The lighter the yellow of pineapple juice, the better. I've mostly used Dole, but I've used another brand that was darker, way on the dark end of yellow and it made my drinks green (I can't remember the brand but I've grabbed it from the liquor store when I didn't want to go find Dole). It still tastes perfect so I don't mind if I'm not having some sort of get together. But when I'm having a party I go for Dole for the pretty blue presentation. I also add a splash of Sprite...my splash is more like a tablespoon. It adds a little fiz and a tiny, very tiny bit of lemon/lime.
