It all started with an innocent childhood question on Thanksgiving Day.

“Mom what’s Black friday?”.

Next, I’m sure Grandpa started off on a tangent about the stock market crash, the great depression, and having to walk 2 miles up hill in the snow.

However, eventually my Mom told me that Black friday was the day after Thanksgiving when malls opens at 4 AM and there are tons of bargains.

Even as a child I adored shopping and always prided myself on picking out the perfect present.

The next morning we got up at the crack of dawn to head to the mall. I was too excited to be tired!

This started a tradition of going Black friday shopping every year. We’d usually shopped from around 5 A.M. to 2 P.M. Eventually as I got older we started splitting up and covering more ground in less time.

Truth be told, I’m not a breakfast person. But believe me when I say Black friday shopping should be an olympic sport. Between standing in line, running to get the bargains, and dodging other crazed shopper you need nourishment. Perhaps peanut butter on jelly and toast and a glass of grape juice?
