How to Make Perfect Waffles Every Time
- Keep your waffles from sticking to your waffle iron by using, oil, butter or non-stick spray.
- Be gentle with the waffle batter and mix only until all the ingredients are just combined. Overmixing the waffle batter will cause the gluten in flour to develop causing the waffles to be hard and chewy rather than light and fluffy.
- Keep cooked waffles in the oven on low heat so they stay warm while you finish up making the other waffles.
- Wait until your waffle maker stops steaming, beeps or lights to indicate the waffles are ready. Opening the waffle maker before the waffles are done cooking prolongs the cooking time due to lost heat.
- If you’re aiming for fluffy waffles, try separating the eggs first then whipping the eggs whites. Fold the egg whites into the batter.
- Clean your waffle maker while it’s still warm (not hot). Letting the waffle residue get cold might make them hard to remove and result in you scrapping and scuffing up the metal. A well-maintained waffle maker will continue to work well for years to come.
