Smores dip with marshmallow and chocolate on a graham cracker.

I love Smores treats in the summer. I've previous shared fun dessert dips like Funfetti Dip, Cannoli Dip, but this Smores Dip might just be my new favorite. It has a melty chocolate base and perfectly toasted marshmallow topping. It is made with pantry staples and ready in no time at all. Best of all no campfire required! This easy recipe is perfect for camping, movie nights, and after-school snacks. Try doubling it for a larger crowd too!

Why This Recipe Works

  1. Perfect marshmallows every time: No charred or raw marshmallows. They melt perfectly every time.
  2. Silky Smooth Milk Chocolate: This tastes like the classic Hershey bar and the melts more smoothly than bittersweet varieties.
  3. Cast Iron: Cast heat conducts heat well. Bonus: Cook and serve in the same skillet for less dishes later.

Ingredient Notes

a collage of chocolate chips, large marshmallows and a graham cracker.
  1. Chocolate: Look for high quality chocolate chips that are at least 70% cocoa. I like Ghirardelli's. You could also use Hershey's Bars, Reese's Cups, or even a Symphony bar.
  2. Marshmallows: You can use mini marshmallows or even fluff for a fun twist.

Dipping Ideas

  1. Classic: You can't go wrong with graham crackers or chocolate Teddy Grahams.
  2. Cookies: Oreos, Vanilla Wafers, Shortbread Cookies, or Mini Chips Ahoy cookies.
  3. Fruit: Sliced Apples, Strawberries, or banana slices
  4. Rice Krispie Treats
  5. Cake: Pound Cake or Angel Food Cake Cubes
  6. Sweet and Salty: Ritz Crackers, Pretzels, Waffle Cones

FAQs

Can You Make It In the Microwave?

Yes, but the marshmallows will not brown. Cook at 50% power in one minute intervals until melty.

What If I Don't Have a Cast Iron Pan?

You use a glass baking dish like a pie pan or an 8x8 casserole dish.

Krystle's Tips

  1. Start with a warm skillet: Put your skillet in the oven while everything is preheating to help things melt faster. Just be careful when you take it out to combine your ingredients as cast iron gets HOT.
  2. Cut marshmallows in half: This will stop them from puffing up and potentially exploding in your oven! The easiest way to do this is with kitchen shears sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.

  12. Would this also work in a glass pan? Or would that end up burning the chocolate? I really want to try this, but i have no cast iron.

    1. Hey Megan,

Yes I feel like a glass pan would be fine as long as it's oven safe and tall enough so it doesn't bubble over! 🙂
