Is orange jello mix and orange jello the same thing? I would like to try this recipe but didn’t know what to buy for this ingredient. Excuse my ignorance but I appreciate your help.
Hi Betty,
Great question. I’m sorry for the confusion, orange jello mix is what I used here.
Can you add any alcohol to this recipe ie vodka or even tequila to make “fake” Screwdriver or Tequila Sunrise minus the grenadine ???
That sounds amazing Karen. I’ve never tried it,but don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
OMG. These are awesome. Could have, but didn’t , eat just the frosting. Will definitely make again. Thanks.
Yay so glad you enjoyed Sally. I’ve eaten just frosting more times than I can count! 😀
Is there a substitute for the orange jello? The gelatin is a problem for me. Thanks!
Hi Cecilia,
I personally haven’t tried it, but orange juice/zest may also give you the flavor you are looking for.
Should they be kept refrigerated or at room temp for eating later?
Hi Jen,
Great question! There’s no actual dairy/creme so I’d keep them at room temp unless its super warm where you are. In my experience cupcakes in the fridge tend to dry out faster.
These cupcakes look so good! Thanks for linking up with What’s Cookin’ Wednesday!
This sounds amazing. I was just wondering.. could this recipe be turned into a cake using two 9 inch cake pans? My son’s turning 4 and I already have special cupcakes planned for his preschool class so I was looking for a special cake recipe.
Amanda,
Thank you! That shouldn’t be a problem just adjust the baking time to what the box mix calls for, for that size pan. Happy Birthday to him!! 🙂
Great flavor for cupcakes, must make them. Thank you for the recipe!
Thanks Wanda! 🙂
These are so fun! Who can resist anything Orange Creamsicle??? Not me!
Thanks Serena!!
These are fantastic!
Thanks Jocelyn, that means a lot coming form the cake Mistress herself!
Can’t wait to make these for my husband. He loves orange creamsicle anything!
Let me know what you guys think Danelle!
I made the cupcakes and followed recipe exactly, but they were flat! I stirred the mix by hand just until the ingredients were combined. Should I haver used my electric mixer? I want to try again.
Hi Liz,
So sorry to hear the cupcakes were flat. I don’t own so I didn’t own a mixer!
Did you use a name brand in date cake mix? I love generic brands but for baking I tend to go with name brands.
I’m not sure what I did wrong, but my icing turned out horrible, I threw most of it away 🙁 it didn’t have much of a orange flavor, and all the ingredients kept separating, it looks and tastes bad. The cupcake part turned out good though.
Hi Canisha,
Glad to hear that the cupcakes were good! Sorry to hear you didn’t like the icing. If it was separating I’d suggest adding more liquid (i.e. milk, water, soda, whatever you prefer).
I also love plain whipped cream on these for a more realistic “creamsicle” flavor.
Hi just found this recipe and just wondered if makes a difference if you used regular jello or instant?
Hi Kelly,
I’ve never used anything but instant jello (i.e. the powder where you add cold/hot water?). I’ve never seen another kind to be honest! 🙂 hope this helps!!
Can these be frozen? How long would they stay fresh unfrozen?
Hi Amanda,
Sure they can be frozen! (I’d freeze without the frosting though!).
Unfrozen cupcakes are generally at their best 3-5 days after making. They’ll probably “last” a few days past that but may get dried out.
Hope this helps!
