Save For Later

Can you believe this moist and fudgy chocolate brownie is made in your microwave in 5 minutes? I make this microwave mug brownie when I get that gotta have it NOW chocolate craving!

Watching Food Network or scrolling through Pinterest at 11 P.M. is always when my worst food cravings hit!  Before you know it I'm craving chocolate treats like my praline brownies, or Brownie Cookies. When you're craving a chocolate brownie and you have to have it right NOW, this microwave mug brownie is perfect! It doesn't taste like it just came out of the microwave either. The egg yolk makes it so moist and fudgy and unlike a mug cake it contains no leavener. This makes it super fudgy. And of course, I included tons of chocolate chunks!!

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

  • Brown Sugar: Use brown sugar to add rich caramel notes and moistness.
  • Flour: Use one spoon to place flour in your measuring spoon, then level with a knife. Don't dip it into your flour container or you may use too much.
  • Egg: Pour the egg back and forth between the two shells to easily separate the white from the yolk.
  • Cocoa Powder: I used Hershey's.
  • Chocolate Chunks: I used semi-sweet chunks as I love the mouthfeel but any variety of chocolate chip will work.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Mug: Use a mug that is wider at the top than a typical coffee mug. This will ensure even cooking and make removing your brownie easier. My mug was 12 ounces. Always make sure it is microwave safe.
  2. One At a Time: Cook separately if you want to make more than one.
  3. Don't Overbake: Just like regular brownies, this dessert will firm up as it cools. Overbaking will lead to a tough dry brownie. It is done when it begins to pull away from the side and the edges are dry. It's okay if the center still looks a little wet.
