This bacon cheeseburger pizza features tangy thousand island dressing, gooey cheese, and crispy bacon This recipe tastes like my favorite burger in pizza form and is simply irresistible.
I love pizza of all kinds. I’ve made fun varieties before like Buffalo Chicken, Crab Rangoon, and even a Pizza Cake! I also love this bacon cheeseburger pizza. I’ve had something similar from Papa Johns, and this is my recreation.
Hands down this is one of the best pizzas I’ve ever made! It has a flavorful sauce, plenty of meat, and of course pickles! Because of this fun combination, my family has dubbed it Big Mac Pizza!
You’ll want to begin by gathering all your ingredients ahead of time. The French call this: Mise en place (Or everything in place). I call it a time-saver that will stop you from rummaging around your kitchen like a crazy woman!
It is great for watching the game or enjoying with family on a Friday night.
Finally, homemade pizza has less fat and sodium than restaurant versions. It also has both less fat and sodium than the Papa John’s version. You know I’m not into healthy
food, but if I can make homemade pizza taste better with less fat/sodium I’m game!
Why I Love This Pizza
- Crunchy Homemade Crust: I make an easy no-rise crust that is crunchy on the outside and pillowy on the inside.
- Filling: With beef, bacon, cheese, lettuce, and pickles this pizza will fill you up.
- Sauce: Sweet, and tangy thousand island dressing makes a unique pizza sauce.
Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips
- Pizza Dough: You can also use store-bought pizza dough. Fun Fact: Most pizzerias will sell you pizza dough for just a few bucks, try it!
- Pizza Yeast: I like using pizza yeast (also called instant yeast) because it requires no time to rise! It also helps your pizza keep its shape when you roll it out. You can find it in little envelopes next to the yeast in the baking aisle.
- Beef: Use lean ground beef (I used 90% lean). If you only have 80/20, drain before adding to your pizza.
- Bacon: I swear by microwave bacon for recipes like this. My favorite is Hormel’s Black Label. It cooks up quickly with no mess while we work on the other steps in our recipe.
- Thousand Island: Any die-hard fan knows that most specialty burger condiments are just Thousand Island Dressing. I love Kraft’s Thousand Island with bacon, SO good. However, you can also easily make your own Thousand Island. Some people also throw in diced onion, garlic, or a splash of hot sauce to kick it up.
- Fun Variations: Add your favorite cheeseburger toppings like jalapenos, mushrooms, or caramelized onions. French fries or onion rings would also be super fun.
How to Make Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
- Make the dough: Mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt together in a large mixing bowl. Next, add the warm water and the olive oil. Mix until well-combined
- Knead: Knead the dough until it no longer sticks to our fingers.
-
Cook Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium/high heat, then add the ground beef. Season with hamburger seasoning, ketchup, and mustard.
-
Sauce: While your beef is cooking, spread the Thousand Island Dressing over the pizza crust until there is an even layer.
-
Bake: Sprinkle with cheese, bacon, and beef. Bake for 14-16 minutes.
-
Top: After removing from the oven, top pizza with the shredded lettuce and pickles.
Make-Ahead Suggestions
- Refrigerate: Make pizza dough ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Bring to room temp before pressing it out and baking it.
- Freezing: If you’d like to make the dough in advance, place it in a freezer bag and freeze it for up to three months. The night before you’re ready to make your pizza, move it to the fridge (it will need to thaw for at least 12 hours). Prior to using it, let the dough sit on the countertop at room temperature for thirty minutes or so to soften. It is awesome having homemade frozen pizza crust you can pop out and bake. So much better than cardboard frozen pizza. I like to put mine in the fridge before work, and take it out to bake when I get home.
To Reheat Pizza
1. Oven: Bake at 425 for 3-5 minutes or until warmed. Cook on a pizza stone if possible to make it crispy again.
2. Skillet: Heat with a small amount of oil for 2-4 minutes or until heated through.
Tips and Tricks
- Don’t add too much sauce or your crust may get soggy.
- Stretch Don’t Roll: Avoid using a rolling pin and stretch and press your dough by hand. This will lead to a light and airy crust.
- Poke your pizza crust with a fork to help it not rise too much.
- Crispy Crust: For a super crispy pizza bake it on the oven rack or a pizza stone. Place a sheet pan below to catch any toppings that may fall off. You can also brush the bottom of the crust with cornmeal for a crispy restaurant-style pie.
- Use a Pizza Peel: You know I’m not big on fancy or expensive equipment. However, you can grab one of these for under 20 bucks on Amazon, and it makes getting your pizza in/out of the oven a breeze. If you homemade pizza often it may be worth picking up.

When we lived in Michigan we used to go to the local Pizza Ranch and get Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza every once in awhile. Since moving we have been unable to get a decent Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza…nobody ever has pickles to put on the pizza! Shame. This is perfect! I am thrilled with this pizza! Thank you!!
