I love music, but I admit mostly everything I listen to is at least 20-30 years old. Neither the lyrics, or music of contemporary music touch me the way older stuff does.
However, I am thrilled to have discovered the band Sweet HayaH! They are a Rock/Soul band from the San Francisco Bay Area who released their first album earlier this year.
Sweet HayaH is energy and passion-filled, and is ALWAYS looking forward to playing for those who want to listen and groove to their tunes.
They provide fresh music. First, I was impressed with their expert instrumental talent. Also, the lead singer has a gorgeous soulful voice that reminds me of Adele and Amy Winehouse.
I also really connected to their lyrics, especially I Know that You Know. It’s about finally finding someone who accepts you for your flaws. I could listen to it over and over again.
Interview with the Band
1. Krystle: Where do you get your inspiration for your songs?
Nehal (Lead Singer): As a band, we draw our compositional and lyrical inspiration from life itself, hence the choice of the term “HayaH” in our name (“Hayah” means “life” in Arabic). It’s rather simple and direct, but what we genuinely seek to accomplish through our music is allow it to bring positivity to our listeners, no matter how dark or uplifting the concept of a song is.
2. K: How did you get into music?
We all independently started playing music from a young age, and our paths crossed over a year ago. We quickly realized that our personnalities and musical styles enabled us to collaboratively create music that expressed our passion for HayaH, in ways we hadn’t been able to express before.
3. K:What is your favorite song to perform?
N:As a band we perform in a multitude of formations based on the venue and the audience. We mainly perform with our full electric four-piece line up, and sometimes switch to more low-key acoustic sets where we invite other musicians to sit in with us. So depending on the type of show, our favorite songs to perform are Don’t Care(electric) “The Truth” (acoustic)
4. K: Do you play any other instruments?
While performing, we stick to our primary instruments: Nehal Abuelata on lead vocals/keyboard, Devin Moreno on guitar/back up vocals, Josh Gardner on drums/percussion/back up vocals, and Aaron Marquez on bass/back up vocals. During rehearsal, at times, we like to mix things up and switch instruments to explore new sounds. The band is now considering a Kazoo side project.
5.K: What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Friends and family are very important to us. We spend our free time enjoying their company.
Please enjoy a sampling of their music below.
