Online College Benefits

The beginning of a new year is always exciting. 2013 is especially exciting for me, because it means in a few more days I’ll be starting another semester of college.

While I started out my college at a typical 4 year residential school, I recently made the switch to online college. It has worked wonders for me ,and I’m not sure I’d ever want to go back to a traditional classroom environment. If you’re interested in online learning consider Ivy Bridge College. Their wide range of benefits, and programs tailored to Moms make them an excellent choice.

I’ve found the main online college benefits to be:

1.  Make Your Own Schedule: I have never been a morning person. No matter how many cups of coffee I drink, or how many 8 A.M. classes I suffer through it just isn’t happening. With online learning you can watch your lectures any time you’d like.

2. Flexibility:  While there are deadlines, it is usually only once a week.  This gives you the flexibility to do your assignments when you have the time around your busy work schedule. In addition, this means you’ll never have to miss a baseball game, school play, or even a night out with the girls.

3. Support Services: Ivy Bridge offers free tutoring, and a private online community to connect with other Moms. In addition, you get a weekly coaching session to focus on real world skills like crafting your resume, and interview skills. I think this is their most exciting offering. At regular schools you’re often lucky to get services like these once a semester.

4. Option to Transfer: Academic advisers will work hard to make sure your credits transfer to a local 4 year college if you’d like to continue your studies.  As someone who has transferred schools, let me tell you  it can be a nightmare! If the second school doesn’t have an equivalent course, you will have wasted not only your time, but your money as well! Luckily Ivy Bridge offers success paths to ensure this doesn’t happen.

5. Cost: Online schools are often significantly cheaper. In fact, cost was the main reason I switched to online learning. I simply couldn’t afford my private college tuition any longer, and was not willing to go deeper into debt. Ivy Bridge costs only 1/3 of what most other private schools do.

In addition, I think Ivy Bridge would be an especially great option for any parent considering going back to school because of the quick turnaround time. My Mom was taking college courses most of my childhood, one course at a time. It was tough on me, but even tougher on her. She would usually attend one class a week from 6-9 P.M. This left me home alone, and her out late on a work night. It also made her weekends and evenings full of assignments for a long time. That’s why I love that Ivy Bridge offers the ability to earn an Associate’s Degree in only 17 months!

  1. I graduated from University of Phoenix, and it was the only way I was able to finish my Bachelor’s degree. I recommend to any busy mom. It beats having to go to classes in person!

  2. College is so expensive discounts are definitely great! Thanks for sharing.

  3. My hubby and I both keep saying that we want to go back to school but with our schedules we just couldn’t find the time! I guess we will now have to look at online schools for the flexibility!!

  4. I love the idea of online college. My sister did it, and she loved it. I think I’m at a place where it may be something I look into this year as well. Thanks for this info, it’s greatly appreciated, and inspiring for me to go check out the info :)

  5. I still need a few more classes to finish and have thought about taking a few html classes too!

  6. I think online schools are great, but one has to have a lot of determination and motivation as well as self discipline to stay on track.

  7. As a full-time mom, going to school part-time or even full-time can be so hard for me! I love taking online classes because I can go at my own pace and set my own schedule. It’s great.

  8. I think for the right individual online programs are great. I was the type who needed the structure and accountability of going to a class room but my hubby has done great with online!

  9. I attended college online and I loved it. But I have to say, it isn’t for everyone. Some people NEED the classroom experience. My husband is that way. He attended college online for one month, hated it and could barely stay afloat. When he switched to a local college instead, he excelled. I think it really depends on the type of learner you are.

  10. These are all great reasons to want to go to school online versus campus.

  11. I don’t want to go back since I have a BA but my daughter is getting ready to start in the fall! This sounds like a great option for moms!

  12. I did part of my schooling online and I loved the flexibility! Of course I was also a major slacker and waited until midnight the night everything was due to post my assignments. LOL

  13. I have been tinkering with the idea of furthering my education. Glad to know the pros of online education!

  14. I’m a dork, I know, but I love school! I am good at it. I would love to finish my masters degree.

    • There are way more Masters degrees online than bachelors, I was shocked by the number you can get almost any masters degree online!

  15. I also found this tuition giveaway in other blog. I told my cousin about this and she got interested.
    So glad I found it.

  16. I really want to go to College, but I am so scared to get started. I would love to go online too because my work schedule is pretty hectic. I need a push!!

  17. On Line learning can be heaven sent for Moms or for people who work full time–I went to a traditional college and I wish there had been more of this (on-line classes) when I did–

  18. I am actually working on Master’s right now online. Love the flexibility!

  19. I wish they had Online College when I was in school. My last year or two, they started offering a few courses, but not anything I needed.

I’d like to go back to school because my current job sucks, my kids are grown, and I can finally afford to work part time and devote some time to studies.
