I first heard about Krispy Kreme Donuts at a Weight Watcher meeting of all places! The ladies there were all talking about how a new donut shop was going to be built on our town. I’d never heard of the brand before then, but was immediately drawn in by the name. Crispy and creamy? Count me in!

These days our Krispy Kreme is now an AT&T store, so I’m forced to get my donut fix at home. This Krispy Kreme Donut recipe is a dead ringer for the original. Light, airy donut covered in that signature rich glaze! Bet you can’t stop at one!

Ingredients
  • For the Krispy Kreme Donut Recipe
  • 2¼ Teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
  • ½ Cup Warm Water
  • ¼ Cup White Sugar, Divided
  • ¼ Cup Evaporated Milk, Warmed
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ Cup Vegetable Shortening, Softened
  • 1 Egg and 1 Egg Yolk
  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 2½ Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 3 - 4 Cups Vegetable Shortening, For Frying
  • For the Glaze
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
  • 1⅓ Cup Powdered Sugar
  • Pinch of Salt, To Taste
  • 2 Teaspoons Evaporated Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3 -4 Teaspoons Water
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl whisk yeast, warm water, and ½ teaspoon of sugar. Set aside for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Then stir in remaining sugar, evaporated milk, salt, shortening, egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually whisk in flour a little at a time until smooth and just combined. Do not over mix.
  4. Knead until dough is smooth and slightly sticky ,but no longer sticking to your fingers.
  5. Spray a large bowl with non stick cooking spray. Transfer dough into bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Rise until doubled in size (around 60-90 minutes).
  6. Punch down dough and roll out onto a floured surface until ~1/2 inch thick.
  7. Cut into circles using a biscuit or donut cutter. Don't forget to cut out the hole in the center.
  8. Cover and rise again until doubled in size. (~30-45 minutes).
  9. In a large dutch oven heat shortening to 360 degrees.
  10. While oil is heating combine all glaze ingredients in a small bowl.
  11. Fry donuts a few at a time until golden brown on both sides, flipping once.
  12. Cool on a wire wrack for 1-2 minutes before dipping into glaze.

Ingredients
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 2¼ Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • Pinch of Salt, To Taste
  • ¼ Cup White Sugar
  • 1 Cup Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • Vegetable Oil, For Frying
  • Powdered Sugar For Dusting, If Desired
  • Confectioners Sugar for Dusting or maybe Cinnamon Sugar
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, beat eggs until foamy,
  2. Stir in flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla, and sugar until just combined. Do not overmix!
  3. Fold in ricotta.
  4. In a large skillet, heat ~2 inches of oil to 375 degrees F. ,inches high.
  5. Spray a small cookie scoop with non sticky spray. Carefully drop batter scoop by scoop into the hot oil a few at a time.
  6. Cook for ~3-4 minutes turning frequently.
  7. Drain on paper towels, and immediately dust with powdered sugar if desired

Summer mornings make me want to cover my head and go back to sleep.

Winter mornings are even worse! I just want to snooze and snuggle under the covers until noon. The only thing (besides a dog jumping on my chest) that gets me moving is knowing I have a yummy breakfast planned.

These apple cider donuts are one of my favorites for Fall. They start out with a simple biscuit dough making them perfect for a lazy weekend or a chilly morning.

Easy Apple Cider Donuts: Cinnamon sugar donuts topped with a decadent apple cider glaze. These Apple Cider Donuts make a perfect fall breakfast treat!
Ingredients
  • 1 Can
  • Pillsbury
  • Grands Biscuits
  • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider
  • ½ Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • Vegetable Oil, For Frying
Instructions
  1. Heat oil over medium heat until it reaches 350 degrees F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar. Set aside.
  3. For the glaze: In a medium bowl whisk powdered sugar and apple cider until smooth.Set aside.
  4. Separate dough into 8 biscuits. Use a small round cookie cutter to cut a hole in the center of each one.
  5. Fry until each side is golden brown (around 2-3 minutes per side).
  6. Remove from oil, drain on paper towels. Immediately dunk both sides in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Drizzle each donuts with a generous amount of glaze.
